What is Air Polishing and what’s involved?

The Air polishing system uses a mixture of water, fine cleaning powder and a jet of air to remove the buildup of plaque and tartar which inevitably develops over time. Air Polishing is a favourable option for patients who are looking for a less invasive cleaning method to the traditional scraping method.  Routine cleanings, performed by the hygienist, are recommended once or twice a year, though this may be more if you suffer from periodontal disease (advanced gum disease). Your hygienist will recommend more than one or two visits per year if they feel you require regular cleaning to help treat periodontal disease, or if it will help play a preventative role in keeping it at bay if you are showing signs of developing periodontitis.
